Lara Croft in Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Tomb Raider is a special kind of videogame, for a reason. Crystal Dynamics set a solid foundation with the reboot of Lara Croft back in 2013. With a bigger world, varied combat, and high-octane action, the sequel “Rise of the Tomb Raider” , is better in every way. The new path for Lara Croft who will become the Tomb Raider is intriguing, making her more complex and capturing the struggle to survive in the cold climate of Russia makes this a a videogame worth looking into.

The most exciting parts about Rise of the Tomb Raider occur as Lara makes her way through desperate situations in order to find Immortality, the stakes have been increased and to my understanding, Rise of the Tomb Raider is indeed a dark videogame. It features semi-open worlds that are split between hubs in which Lara can craft, hunt, do side-quests, explore tombs although I kept doing the story, there is clearly more “game” here then in 2013’s entry.

Climbing the Mountain.

Russia’s brutal, snowy landscape are a great venue and a great location to test your skills and test your survival skills against the cold weather. Offering gorgeous vistas, beautiful landscapes, hunting animals. The excitement comes from exploring the world, and the tombs that litter the world. Players can raid nine optional ones that are scattered, along with a few that are required for the main story.  Exploring tombs is exciting in this entry.

The action is more bombastic then anything, explosions, gunfire, helicopters, whatever you name it. Combat is now on the fly, and more strategic, providing ways to attack your foes. Often times, you can go in for a stealth kill and often times, you can go in for the kill. Playing stealthy is a big plus and entertaning for me, however going loud is just as good.

The Russian Wilderness.

Lara has plenty of combat prowess, objects in the environment can be used as opportunities for explosions. Using melee kills was satisfying, using her climbing hook gear to stab a foe in the eye was brutal and satisfying , combat has indeed turned darker. All of this is satisfying and equally entertaining for a few hours.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is indeed a gorgeous, dark, brutal videogame and the thrill of being an adventurer, similar to Indiana Jones is entertaining. Definitely, one of the year’s bests!
