Letters from the Front


July, 1944.

Following the invasion of France that was a success for the Western Allies, progress inland was terribly slow because of the Bocage country and heavy German defenses to slow down the Allied advance. To build up Allied monument, the cities of Cherbourg and the historic city of Caen were objectives for the American and British forces. General Montgomery had plans to take Caen on D-Day, while Cherbourg was intended to fall 15 days later. Possession of Caen and it’s surrounding area were desirable for open warfare would also give the Second Army a suitable base of operations for a push south to take Falaise. The taking of Caen is one of the most important D-Day objectives because the city was heavily defended and was a point of interest for the Germans.

The British-Canadian offensives around Caen kept Germany’s elite in Normandy, including armor but even so, the American First Army was going at a slow pace because of heavy German defenses and the surrounding French countryside. Hedgerows made it difficult to do anything because the US First Army hadn’t trained for this sort of combat and with no ports in Allied hands, all reinforcements and supplies had to land at the beaches. The American advance was halted at St.Lo to concentrate on taking the port city of Cherbourg. By August, the Allied effort was to trap the retreating Germans alongside the 7th and 5th Panzer divisions at Falaise. Allied units had crossed the River Seine and on August 22nd, the Allied forces encircled and surrounded the Germans at Falaise which came to be known as the Falaise Pocket which finally ended the Normandy campaign with a major Allied victory. The Allies were able to advance freely towards the River Seine with Paris being liberated by the end of August.

This was the beginning of the end of the Nazi war machine and finally after four years, the Allies had a foothold in Western Europe and France was finally liberated.



The game mode of War is almost a complete rift on Operations from Battlefield 1, War isn’t what the game mode was back during World at War in 2008, it’s been completely revamped and has changed. It takes on a more serious approach with the usage of teamwork and following orders, and completing objectives like building a bridge or destroying an Ammo depot. It’s extremely small-scale operations from Battlefield 1 and it is extremely fun.

War is the brand new game mode coming to World War II, even though it isn’t technically new to the franchise. War was first seen back in World at War and returned in Advanced Warfare as Momentum,  which was a really bad and bullshit spin-off from the original War mode. In this version of War, we have to take 4 objectives as the American Army and defend as the Wehrmacht.

Call of Duty: WW2 is a game that’s decent but it isn’t very good, it suffers from the same problems as past Call of Duty’s and instead of fixing those mistakes like including Dedicated Servers, Anti-Cheat software and other things that 2017 games have, they just pull the same thing again. Frankly, the game’s multiplayer isn’t even worth it except for this mode right here. This mode is probably the best mode that Call of Duty has brought to the franchise, it’s objective-based and doesn’t show K/D ratio also it encourages some teamwork like building a bridge or destroying the Ammo depot.

Call of Duty: WW2’s multiplayer isn’t even that good outside of War, and that makes me worried for the final game when it releases on November 3rd. Stay tuned tomorrow for an article going further into the problems that Call of Duty:WW2 has.
