Letters from the Front

high speed stakes

E3 had no shortage of games to pursue. I came back from E3 with a lot of to show and getting hands on with two of my most anticipated games of the 2018-2019 season. Today, I select my Game of the Show from E3 2018 where I select two games, one game wins Game of the Show while the other is the runner-up.

Cyberpunk 2077: Game of the Show

different faces

At E3 2018, I didn’t get to see much of Cyberpunk 2077 but from what I read and have seen from the trailer, this game is definitely the future of RPG’s and the future of gaming as a whole.

Cyberpunk 2077 is a game set in the dark future where mega-corporations run America and where the higher cost of living is good but expensive. Cyberpunk 2077 takes place in Night City where anyone can do what they please and where everybody can be who they want to be.

After a long 6 to 5 year wait, we finally got to see Cyberpunk 2077 for the first time and that trailer really nailed it. I can’t wait to see more and I can’t wait to see what CD Prokject Red has been cooking for us in this dark future of the American Dream.

Battlefield V: Runner-up

Battlefield V wins runner-up as it really left me with a lasting impression and for me it pulls ahead of everything I saw. Battlefield V has a lot of substance and style, both of which come together in this unique take on mankind’s greatest conflict. That came to life with the demo I played at EA Play 2018 and at E3 2018 and I can’t wait to see more.

The reveal trailer that released last month doesn’t do the game any sort of justice, this game is probably at best one of the best Battlefield games in a long time. Battlefield V recommits itself to squad play, a feature that was missing in Battlefield 1 and Operations makes its grand return from its debut in Battlefield 1 but it’s bigger and better.

After the successes of Battlefield 1 and it’s debut of Operations, Battlefield V is upping the scale when it comes to Operations. Operations has been renamed to Grand Operations where you fight across 4 in-game days across both the unknown and iconic battles of the Second World War on different maps and modes.

At EA Play and at E3 2018, I received hands on with the mode on the map titled “Narvik.” where this particular operation takes place in Norway during the German invasion of Norway as they begin to sweep west a month before the Battle of France and the evacuation at Dunkirk. If you want to learn more, here is my first impressions: Here

From what I played, Battlefield V is a return to form for the franchise after Battlefield 1 kind of deviated from what made the franchise what it is with the introduction of behemoths and elite kits alongside a variant system for the weapons. Battlefield V removes all of the features that were seen in Battlefield 1 and takes out all the fluff from previous games. After a couple of hours of playing, Battlefield V has the potential to be something quite special and could probably be one of the best Battlefield games in a while.
