Letters from the Front

Halo Infinite has been delayed into 2021 and there is no specific timeframe for the game to be released. When we first saw the gameplay reveal back in July during the Xbox Showcase, reactions were mixed to negative but while the gameplay looked fantastic, it was the graphics that took the brunt of the force. Touted as the centerpiece at the center of the Series X launch, the game looked rough, online the game got meme’d on where people was no longer talking about the game but certain aspects of the game that looked less than appealing.

The delay of Halo Infinite is disappointing to say the least. Halo Infinite won’t launch with the Series X, meaning that the launch lineup will rely on third party games like some of this Fall’s biggest releases. The delay also means that the game will look a lot better and will increase the time to develop the game. Factoring in the situation around the world at the current moment, the delay will be tough for the developers at 343i.

While the delay is disappointing, it benefits the Xbox Series X and benefits the Xbox in the long run. Launching Halo Infinite in less than a desirable state would have been very bad for the brand and for the Series X. Back in 2013, the Xbox One had several undercooked first party games which nailed the obvious, and one of the promises of the Phil Spencer era was that they were going to give games the right amount of time and funding to be great games and that promise has held up. Launching Infinite around the launch of the Series X would be antithetical to the messages that are being delivered by Phil Spencer and company.

The delay will lead to a better product, while, it will hurt the launch of the Series X. Halo Infinite has been in development for 5 years, and it will be 6, when the game launches next year. Halo Infinite needs to be the best Halo game and knock it out of the park after the disaster that was Halo 5: Guardians and hopefully the delay will do exactly that.

In conclusion, I hope Halo Infinite is the game that us Halo fans deserve and is the game that we need right now.
